Needlebook Finished!

I finally finish finished this Foothills Chapter of EGA project from last August! I finished the crazy quilting part in 2010, but had not gotten around to the finishing into a needlebook part. Well this past weekend I got it done - oh boy in under a year! I had some green wool felt and added an extra page to the book, so it holds plenty of needles now. I also put in a snap closure and added an extra charm I had from another project.

Here is the front.

Here is the front and back.

Here is the inside.

I think it came out ok and is kind of cute too.

Happy Stitching Everyone!!

Another Sampler Guild Retreat Finish

Today I give you another project from the Sampler Guild of the Rockies June 2011 Retreat.  It was in this pretty green with white daisy cloth envelope.

I used a frame I purchased in a chapter sell your stash event and the did the framing myself.  It is from the Rainbow Gallery 2005 Cross Stitcher’s Surprise Series: May – Bright Flower. This link takes you straight to the chart, but if you go to the Rainbow Gallery Freebie site and click on the free Cross Stitch link you can scroll down to find the other months in the series. They are cute too!

Summer is heating up here and elsewhere, think cool thoughts!

Miss Maddie turns gray followup

In case any of you are wondering how Miss Maddie looked for her first visit to the new veterinarian. Well the paint was all gone by Saturday. Most had just wore off and I gently brushed her ear and got that all off. So she was her pretty little self on exam day.

But, I noticed a couple of weeks ago she had turned itchy when ever petted and the doctor thinks she may have an alergy. She also had a gunky (my non-technical term) left ear. Possible infection which could be also food alergy related, or water in the ear at some point. So, since we had her groomed not too long ago, can't say for sure the cause. Now we are treating the ear, which she handles quite well, and giving her generic zyrtec. Since we recently moved and changed her food and had her groomed, can't tell for sure if it is an seasonal alergy or food. But if she is still itchiy come November/ December we can narrow it down to a food alergy. Isn't doggie ownership fun???

Miss Maddie Suddenly Turns Gray!

I came home from work yesterday and it looked like Miss Maddie had suddenly turned gray while we were at work!

No, silly girl pushed her way through the door jam that had wet paint! Saturday she gets her annual booster shots and meets her new veterinarian for the first time. What an impression she will make! But I bet she is not the first dog they have seen with paint on their fur!

Kids these days!

Miss Maddie

July 5th marked the three year anniversary of our adoption of Miss Maddie. When we got her she weighed 76 lbs when she should have weighed 60! We slowly got the weight off her and she began to like to play. As time passed she has become a very affectionate dog and has learned to ask for belly rubs! When we got her she loved to have a stuffed animal at all times. Now she mostly carries it around when one of us comes home or we have a visitor. All who enter must be greeted with a stuffed toy. Here favorite is duck and here she is sleeping with it. Well...sleeping on it!

More Sampler Guild Retreat Stitching

I finish finished Pink Flower. I made it into a pillow using the fabric provided and added pearl beads around the edge with little loops at each corner. Kind of cute but kind of a pain in the you know what too.

Then I finish finished La-D-Da Rose Free-bee (sorry I can’t find an on-line source for this one).   I added my initials and date on my own. There was no suggestion for it.
I did not use the fabric provided with the kit and shown below.

I decided to use a scrap of fabric I had with pink roses on it. I will save the cute sampler like fabric for something else. I had the cording left over from another project. It barely made it around, but I thought the color was perfect, so I gave it a go.

These were two of the three flower kits in the flower pot center piece at the retreat I went to. I posted about the other one on my retreat post (it is at the bottom).

I seem to be on a roll when it comes to the retreat projects. I am almost done with the one that came in this bag.

So far these projects have been fun and I think for my August table display I will stay with summer and use some of these flower finishes on the table. I think I found a nice clear bowl I can use to put them in. You will just have to wait to see how it comes out.

I hope it is not too hot in your neck of the woods, a little toasty here.

Yum, Yum for the 4th of July

I decided to make a colorful desert to celebrate the 4th of July.
From the bottom up it is: a layer of sugar free cheesecake pudding, sliced strawberries, a bunch of blueberries and a big dollop of whipped cream. Tastes pretty good too, if I may say so.

Mary's Broccoli Slaw

I made this for our recent EGA meeting lunch and it seems to have been a big hit - at least I think so when someone asks for the recipe! So I thought I would share it with all of you. Sorry no picture.

Mary's Broccoli Slaw
Ingredients
2 - 3 oz pkgs of oriental flavor ramen noodles
2 - 12 oz bags of broccoli slaw (in bagged lettuce section)
1/2 cup roasted, unsalted sunflower seeds
5 chopped green onions and tops
3 oz pkt of oscar mayer bacon bits

Dressing Mix:
3/4 cup olive oil (light flavor)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 ramen noodle seasoning packet
2 drops sesame oil

Put the ramen noodles in a bag and crush. Add sunflower seeds, mix well.
In a small bowl mix the dressing ingredients. Put in a jar or container to transport to the pot luck.
In serving bowl mix the slaw and green onions.

When ready to serve add the noodle/sunflower seed mix and bacon to the slaw and toss well. Add dressing and toss well. I used only about two thirds of the dressing.

Notes: I mixed the dressing the night before, not sure if that helped the flavor or not, but it seemed too.
I thought about adding grapes or dried cranberries or slivered almonds, but did not.
It really helped to wait to mix the dressing with the slaw and noodles so to keep the noodles crisp. I did have some leftovers the next day, and while it still tasted good, that noodle crunch was missing!
Enjoy!!

TUSAL July

Here is my July new moon TUSAL post. I have mostly been working on Sampler Guild of the Rockies Retreat pieces since the last new moon. I put a spool of Krienik next to the jar to give you an idea of the size. It is your basic pint canning jar, which I use for crafts and have yet to actually do any canning!

Happy Canada Day to those of you up north!
For those of us in the USA have a great 4th of July weekend!!
