HO, HO, HO Finished

I last told you about this project here Catching Up on Feb. 13. I am thinking I will frame this myself without glass, so when I put it away after Christmas it will not break in the box!

This & That

 I have been busy stitching items to sell at our community Club Expo. It was Nov. 6 and I did quite well selling more than other Expos. Our last Expo was March of 2020 and I think buyers were happy to have then back. 

Quite popular were my Foxwood Crossings sleds :

The Lumenaris wool applique scissor fobs also found good homes. The cat and rooster did not sell, but there is always next time! 

Everything in this photo sold except the golfing Santa. I was a little surprised since we live in a golf community. Again, maybe next sale. The golf is by Hinziet, the Santa's are from 2000 & 2001 Just Cross Stich Christmas Ornament issues both by The Sweetheart Tree. The southwest design is a section of a bell pull kit that I can't find the chart for right now, but I bought it in the late 1990s.

Not expo related is this fun Halloween card I made with a pop up inside.

Some Holiday Cards for 2020

 While stitching is my main love, I also dabble in papercrafts. Here are some holiday cards I made this year.

This and That

I have been busy setting up a new Needlework related Chartered Club in my community. It has taken up a bit of my time, but we are now official! The needlework club of Festival Stitchers is meeting weekly and we have a good start. I started a blog for the group, we will see how that goes. Not much there at the moment.

Now to catch up a little.

I think I forgot to show you this cute Snowman ornament I made for sister-in-law 2 (SIL2, my husband's sister). I have two sister in laws, my brother's wife and my husband's sister. I have know my brother's wife the longest, she will be SIL1.

Here is the front and back of the ornament I made. SIL2 loves snowmen and I make usually make her a snowman something for Christmas (sometimes her birthday). This is called SNOW by Val's Stuff and is from the 2106 Just Cross Stitch Ornament Issue.

Here are some beaded items I had for sale at our communities last Craft Expo. I sold one bracelet.

My local EGA Chapter, Desert Threaders had a cute wool applique project this month. It is a little cherry tart pin cushion. So cute!! And easy to make too.  It is called "Baking Cherry Tarts" designed by Deborah Gale Tirico (c) 2012.

Some Blasts From Christmas Past

Since I am stitching for current Christmas gifts and can't post any photos, I thought I would post some of my favorites from the past.

A Shepherds Bush from the 2000 Just Cross Stitch Ornament Issue. It won an Honorable Mention in the 2001 North Carolina State Fair (I think it could have done better, but I was a novice at finishing and had a bid of trouble).

2009 ANG or EGA project, designed by one of our members.

A netted ornament from a class I took in 1999.

This angel I made in 1994 and it won a third place ribbon in the L.A. County Fair.

Miss Maddie in 2009 with her new toy.

This from Issue 39 of Jill Oxton's Cross Stitch magazine (1999). The legs and arms move up and down when a string is pulled. It won a third place ribbon in the 2001 North Carolina State Fair.

This is also from the 2000 Just Cross Stitch Ornament Issue. I made two that year, one for my brother's family and one for us. It was fun to stitch.

I made this in 2009 for my friend, Sandra. Sorry I do not know the design or designer.

These two Santa I made in 2005 or 2006. I have looked high and low for designer information and can't find it. I want to say it is through Rainbow Gallery, but I am not sure.

These are just a few of my favorites that I have made. 

At this point I realize I have not made our 2016 ornament!! Yikes, I best get stitching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 I may post other of my ornaments later and maybe do a post on ornaments I have gotten from friends and exchanges. I have them on their own metal ornament tree.

Cross Stitch Magazines Plus a WIP

I have some magazines from the 1980s and a few earlier ones wondering if I should keep them? I probably have not looked at them since I got them! Are they worth moving to Arizona? Off to Goodwill?
What do you think?

Progress on Santa

This is my progress on Libby Sturdy's Mile High Santa. A Colorado Columbine ANG project.

I just need to decide what to stitch for the background as designed or a suggested alternative.

STITCHING!

I am a little behind on some stitching posts, so here goes!

Last November, my Foothills EGA Chapter meeting program was a sweet little Brazilian Embroidery Poinsettia. It was a kit from Ed Mar taught by one of our members who is an expert in Brazilian.

I had a little trouble when I rinsed out the blue marker - the red thread ran. GRR!! I used cold water too. I have since rinsed it again and may have to do it one more time before I can finish finish it.

I also recently finished the back of my Santa Star by Homespun Collectibles - sadly it is out of print, but I have seen it on Ebay. I only did the Santa front - quite a few years ago, and only the Santa part of the design. Then I got the wild idea to do his back and make it into a star shaped ornament. Well I finally finished stitching the back. I still need to work on the details regarding actually making the star shape though.

I was also going to show you the front and back of a Red, White & Blue Biscornu, but could not find it to photograph. I am sure it is in a "safe" place and I can post on it another time!

Last Round of Christmas Ornaments - for now anyway!

Here are a couple of round ornaments I have made for Sandra. She made the mistake one year of telling me how she wanted to decorate her tree with handmade ornaments and was a little short. I have been helping to fill her tree ever since!

Again, not sure the years I did these, but I think I the top one was done a few years ago and the bottom one may be one of the first ornaments I made her, perhaps in the mid to late 1990s?

I think you can figure out what year I did the top one! The bottom is a mill hill kit I did last year.

Christmas Tree Skirt Made by Sandra

Here is another Christmas item my friend made for me. I use it every year since she gave it to me. It is too pretty to leave in a drawer and I just love the colors and the piecing. It is perfect for our tree (we have an artificial tree). Many years ago when we had a male dog, I decided an artificial tree was best, I did not want him to think  we were providing him with indoor plumbing.
