The Game is On! Update 3

I am making pretty good progress! The top two rows are complete along with all the black squares in the upper half. It is starting to look like a checkerboard.

Below is a photo of my stitching set up in the dining room. I may have mentioned this piece is on 16"x16" stretcher bars and I can't stitch in my usual spot without clunking our dog in the head when I turn to the back of the project. She likes to lie along my leg when I sit in the recliner. She does the same with hubby, we call ourselves her people pillows.

This setup turns out to be a nice sunny area to stitch and lots of table space to lay my stuff out! We do not usually eat at this table, preferring the kitchen island, so it works out fine for this project.

The Game Is On! Update 2

 Here is my progress so far.

I set up a stitching area for this large piece (16"x16" stretcher bars) on my dining room table. We eat at our kitchen island, so not a big deal. I do however host Hand and Foot cards at my house every 6 weeks, so will have to move it next time if I don't get it done!

The black squares and the cream squares are each two different patterns. At first, I thought I might stitch all area ones, then move to two, etc. But yesterday I decided I might try to get the top set of squares, done first since it is a bit of a reach. I know I could turn it upside down, but I want to make sure the squares are all the same and for me, this is the best way to do it. 

If I need a change of pace, I can work on the frame areas, those are meant to have the frame rotated, so it will always be at the bottom.

I am still enjoying working on this one. I turn up the tunes on my phone and stitch away. I am not a big fan of a quiet room when stitching, so if hubby is not watching the TV (which I can hear in the dining room with these open-concept houses) I use my phone for music.

The Game Is On! Update 1

As many of you may know, when you take needlework classes you often come home with an incomplete project with bits and pieces stitched all over the place!

This is understandable with the limited teaching time and the instructor wanting students to know how to do each section or stitch. When I come home, I usually finish stitching anything that has "spaghetti" (those threads stopped mid-section) and then go back to the beginning and start from there.

This piece is a bit of a problem with going back to the beginning since areas 1 - 4 are each a different square which is repeated across the board. There are approx. 16 area 1s. So, where to start??

I decided to work on the area 1s until I get tired of the stitch and then will switch to area 2 etc. 

Here is my progress to date.

The Game is On!

Because this piece is so big (16"x 16" stretcher bars), I decided to work on this in my studio (so not to clunk Coco in the head when I turn over the frame) and will work on something else at my stitching nest (project to be determined).

I have not made a lot of progress but hope to get my stitching mojo back soon. Baseball season is starting soon and that is a good time to stitch. Right now, I am a bit focused on our community EXPO and trying to make more playing card holders for Feb. 24. They do not stitch up as fast as you might think.

I am thinking it might motivate me to give you Friday updates on The Game Is On! and then Monday updates on whatever I choose for my stitching nest project. I am thinking about Quilt Square II or  Saguaro Sunrise. Maybe you can help me choose??

ANG National Seminar 2022 Part 3

 August 4 - 5, 2022 I took a class with Susan Hoekstra called The Game Is On!

Note: I obtained verbal permission to post photos of the instructor's piece and my progress.

As you see it is a checkerboard. The kit came complete with the frame and checkers! Oh and threads too.

Here is my progress during class.

This last photo is also my progress to date. I have not worked on it since the seminar. It is on a 16"x16" stretcher bars and I can't work on it in my stitching nest without clunking the dog in the head when I turn it on my floor stand! So, I had planned to work on the other seminar pieces first and then do this in my studio somehow. As you know those plans did not work out, but there is always 2024!
