American Patchwork is Finished!

I last told you about this canvas project on June 10th.

I have been stitching most evenings and got it finished and even put it into the tray!!

This picture was taken without the glass, so you can actually see the stitches.

The project was designed to fit onto a Sudberry House Shaker box, but I already had this Sudberry Petite Serving Tray. The opening of the tray is larger than the Shaker box, so at the teacher's suggestion I traced the oval onto my project and added to the squares as needed to make it larger. This took a bit of work, some squares needed to be make larger or totally made up since the original called for basket weave to fill in smaller areas. But it came out nicely in the end!!

It was fun to do and I put the instructions into a portfolio, so it is kind of like a stitch book now.

Now to put away any leftovers of the 27 different threads that were used for this project!!

Happy Stitching!!

Jubilation Diamond Box 1

I purchased this kit at a club stash sale in Colorado a few years back since it was in "MY" colors. I finally got around to finishing the stitching and the finish finishing attaching it to the box top. A double whammy!!

It is called Jubilation Diamond Box 1 designed by Denise Harrington Pratt and she also made the box.

Besides the box and finishing materials for the top, the kit had a variegated floss, two solids and a fine metallic and 28 count linen. But all the colors are referred to as color A, B C or D, so I can't tell you the colors except for the cording which used a full skein of DMC 3779.

The finished size is roughly 4"x4". This is the top with cording made by me as well as the stitching. The sides are a little fuzzy because I did this on my scanner. I can't seem to find the photos I JUST took and saved to the computer. GRRR.

This is the side view. Taken with my camera, so what did I do with the other photo?? I may need more coffee or is it too early for wine? It only called for one piece of cording, but I must have misread the instruction because I ended up with a gap, but I had a skein of this color on hand and made a second row of cording. I think it looks fine!

And lastly she puts a label on the bottom of the box since each box is hand made by her and it has a place for the stitcher to add their information. I added the words "and finished by" after the words stitched after I scanned it, so it does not show up here.

It was fun to stitch and the finishing was not too hard either with the good instructions!

Virtue Leads Finish Finishes

Last year the Sampler Guild of the Rockies decided to have their annual workshop be a finishing class. So we did all the stitching in advance, and were to do all the finishing in class. Well I up and moved to Arizona before the class, but I did get all the pre-work done, not knowing when our house would sell.

It is Virtue Leads Stitch Book, scissor fob, needle book and pyn keep by Chessie and Me an original design by Linda Lautenschlager. It is on 36 count Lakeside linen and uses Classic Colorworks threads and Weeks Dye Works  Mountain Mist wool fabric.

Well the nice folks at the Sampler Guild sent me all the stuff and instructions to finish this project and this past week I did just that!

It consisted of a paper mache book box that we painted blue, rubbed on some paraffin wax as a resist and then painted it black. I then sanded off areas I wanted the blue to show through to give it a distressed look.

I attached the stitched pieces for the book onto the nice wool felt provided and then attached one on the front of the book and one on the inside - see the first two photos below.

The second photo has the box open (which I lined with some paper provided) and shows the scissor fob and pyn keep. Also provided was a bit of bees wax and a wooden corner gauge compliments of Chessie and Me.

Also part of the project is a Needle Book.

Here is the front and back of the Pyn Keep

Here it is all together!

It was a LOT of fun to stitch and to finish!

Death By Candy Corn

In my last post I asked for comments to help me pick out fabric to use on a piece, and here is the result:

Off it will go tomorrow with a package of candy corn and it will be a surprise, out of the blue gift for my mother in law.

Happy Day All!!
